How to properly take care of your Jewelry to Increase its Lifespan

Have you ever noticed your jewelry changing colour, losing its shine, or even breaking?

Just like anything we value, jewelry needs proper care to stay beautiful. The same goes for our precious pieces. The more attention we give them, the longer they’ll look new and well-preserved, allowing us to enjoy them for years to come.

What's more, the older a piece of jewelry gets, the more sentimental value it tends to hold. Taking good care of it preserves the memories and meaning attached to each piece too.

Let Your Jewelry Rest When You Do

We know you love wearing your jewelry, especially your pieces from Gram Collections, but even your favourite jewelry needs a little rest.

Try to remove it when it's not necessary, such as during house chores (to avoid damage from cleaning products) or while sleeping. A little care goes a long way in keeping your jewelry looking its best.

Keep Away from Harsh Chemicals and Cosmetics

To add on, a bit more detail: chemicals, perfume, lotions, hairspray, and even sweat can cause the plating to wear off faster.  Always apply these products before putting on your jewelry, and wait at least 10–15 minutes to let them absorb.

Also, avoid exposing your jewelry to cleaning products, bleach, chlorine, or anything acidic. These substances can strip away the delicate gold coating and leave your piece dull or discolored.

If you’re using hand sanitizer or sunscreen, take your jewelry off first to prevent damage. Prevention is key to preserving the look and finish of gold-plated pieces. It’s wise to remove your jewelry wh en cooking or showering.

Store Each Piece Separately

A simple yet highly effective tip is to always store your jewelry pieces separately.

To keep your gold-plated jewelry in top condition, use a soft pouch, wrap it in a microfiber cloth, or place it in the original Gram Collection box it came in.

Avoid tossing pieces into a drawer or storing them together with other metals, as this can lead to scratches, tangles, or the gold plating wearing off over time. A little care in how you store your jewelry makes a big difference in how long it lasts.

 Clean Only When Necessary

Overcleaning can cause more harm than good which can cause erosion of the material over time. It’s best to clean your pieces only when they show signs of dullness or visible dirt.

A light wipe-down with a soft cloth after each wear is often enough to keep them looking fresh. Save the soap-and-water routine for when the jewelry really needs it.

The less friction and liquid your jewelry is exposed to, the longer it will last.

Think of it like makeup; gentle touch-ups go further than daily scrubbing.
